As part of the courses Dendrometry and Principles of Forest Management in our Department of Forestry Engineering, field applications were conducted.

On December 28, 2023, the 2nd and 4th-year students of the Department of Forestry Engineering conducted field applications as part of the course on Dendrometry and Principles of Forest Management under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Birsen DURKAYA and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sinan KAPTAN. Bartın Central Forest Management Chief Şükrü UZUN, Dereköy Forest Management Chief Recep SÖYLER, Akçamesçit Forest Warehouse Chief Yakup ARIKAN, and Forest Engineer Ferda AÇIKGÖZ also participated in the practical application. Information on tree marking, stamping, tree cutting in compliance with occupational safety, and quality standards related to the tasks such as field operations was demonstrated to the students on-site. General information was provided about the tasks and processes from the stacking of the obtained products in the warehouse to their sale.

After the training in the warehouse, the group proceeded to the forest area, where inventory studies related to forest management planning were conducted. Topics covered included sample plot selection for inventory studies, tasks performed within each sample plot, and how to measure the age, diameter, and height of trees included in the inventory. Additionally, students divided into different groups filled out sample plot inventory forms as part of practical exercises.
